The Chillout Lounge Mix - Deep Thoughts 3
Deepest thoughts expressed through deep sounds. Included the usual wide variety of genres in this mix, I love when deep and chilled are blended together, check out the other Deep Thoughts mixes if you enjoy this one.
Mattr is a leftfield house and electronica producer, DJ, visual artist and label owner. Following his remix for Max Cooper, Mattr’s next releases are two electronica / breaks tracks on his own imprint Loft & Sound. With these two records Mattr continues to build out his crafted approach to electronica with two intricately layered and textured records. Tal features syncopated melodies, heavy bass and melancholic pads. Making her debut, Lili Chan is a unique artist deeply passionate about her Japanese heritage and culture. A singer and songwriter, inspired by her Japanese pop roots alongside raving in Europe, make for a truly potent mix. Wabi Sabi is her debut EP, released on the esteemed HE.SHE.THEY imprint. Each track showcases Lili's Japanese heritage and diverse influences. Wabi Sabi named after the traditional Japanese ideal that there is beauty in imperfection. This track exquisitely expresses this philosophy, overlapping Lili’s tranquil vocal hook with a dark invigorating bassline and the graceful Japanese Koto. GRAMMY winning producer and one third of electronic trio NERO, Joseph Ray, announces thrilling new single Cos of You, which showcases his production prowess, featuring swelling leads and rolling deep percussion. The track was road-tested by Joseph Ray to a heaving crowd at Anjunadeep's sold out label takeover of iconic venue Printworks London. I included two versions of Eunoia by the super gifted Savvas (Stripped Recordings), loved the ambient version which is later in the mix, and the original is utterly sublime. Pedro Capelossi makes a welcome return to Loot Recordings with three new originals that showcases his deep, hazy sound that’s immersed in melodic atmospheres and cosmic soundscapes. Irezumi is a deep groove of swaying synths combined with psychedelic overtones, accented by whirling synth hooks and a booming bass rhythm. Krissky delivers a dubby, tripped out interpretation that appears to stretch time with its slow groove and tweaked out effects and analog sounds. Horizons welcomes Chris Zippel to the roster and his Noosphere / Ombra EP. An iconic artist with a host of impressive production credentials to his name, Chris Zippel, has been at the vanguard of electronic music since the age of 15. His portfolio thus sees music writing credits for the Pet Shop Boys, Robbie Williams, Norah Jones and Paul Van Dyk in a long and illustrious career. Splitting his time between his Berlin hometown and the party island of Ibiza, Zippel also has a raft of solo production credits to his name, dating back to a debut for Organic Records in early 2001. Powerful music for the night, dark and melancholic throughout. Tim Angrave (Numen Records) - Darkness goes deep and observes an inevitable feeling, with vivid beats and alluring tones. Riigs & Skenna’s (Londam) new EP takes them into the darker world of atmospheric dub - a sound they love and close to the heartbeat of the label. Maxim Zatonski, an electronic musician and producer whose work combines both melancholy electronic elements of Melodic Techno and deep grooves with organic percussion from downtempo and organic House, gathered musicians and vocalists (Pumbum, Studio Deep, Nastine) to make his debut release on the vibrant label Caffe De Anatolia. Yone B is one of my favourite deep / chilled producers, so many wonderful tracks, check him out. Joris Feiertag is a Dutch producer and live-act from Utrecht in the Netherlands who makes music that is a finely balanced combination of organic and synthesised elements, often using ingenious syncopated rhythms combined with instruments such as the harp and kalimba. In 2023 he will release Roots, his third album on Sonar Kollektiv. Having concentrated his attention on catchy hooks and a number of guest voices on his first, and deeper breakbeat workouts on his second, Joris felt it was time to deliver something that sat comfortably in a space somewhere between the two. “Queen & King is about being content on your own, putting yourself first and not settling for anyone unless they enrich your life.“ Erik Heirman is Setsuna from Zürich, Switzerland and he has a nice individual style with a lot of variety from super chilled to techno and deep. The sublime Lake Turner returns to collaborate with his childhood friend & multi-disciplinary producer WEM. Beautifully melancholic & contemplative, Shelter On A Hill Pt, 1, a beatless record which straddles the worlds of the electronic lush-calm akin to Warp's LFO / Mark Pritchard & the delay / reverb drenched halo-chamber strings of Stars Of The Lid, check out Emerald Pool. Julianna Barwick (Ninja Tune) - Healing Is A Miracle is a record built on improvisation and a close affinity to a couple of trusted items of gear, from which she spins engrossing, expansive universes. Additionally, Barwick draws on the input of three collaborators with whom she has nurtured deep friendships with over the years: Jónsi (Sigur Rós), Nosaj Thing and Mary Lattimore; who each gently nudge out at the edges of her organically-evolved sound.
