With 'the long nineties' slow train still showing no sign of departing the cultural platform, and so much current electronic music spinning around related axis, it's great to see Hooj Choons, make one of their infrequent returns to the fray. The Hooj Catalogue owners were keen to see orchestral versions of some of their (and selected other) favourites from yesteryear, and so have managed to tempt the original creative team back to the fray for the project to work with the fruits of a noted Slovenian orchestra's interpretations (HEO: Huge Ensemble Orchestra). Saycet is one of the coolest producer / composer and beatmakers in France and his name is growing really fast in the film industry world (his last work is the Netflix series splitted with Laurent Garnier, La Revolution. The electronic compositions of this Parisian producer are pushing the limits of ambient, classical skills composition into the a minimalistic dancefloor. His rework for Niklas Paschburg's IF, a song from the album Svalbard, brings the delicate atmosphere of Niklas to a darker, vivid and danceable world. Barcelona based electronica duo PALLADIAN release their first official single with the superb Emancipator's Loci Records. Burn Marks is a modern nostalgic post-summer song conjuring up bitter-sweet memories of times passed. Soft but intense percussion forms an organic drum rhythm followed by a crescendo of arpeggios while a haunting voice resonates at the back. Balancing their sound between the dance floor oriented fuller and uptempo beats and sparser ambient textures their music hits a sweet spot that works for all occasions. Ethereal (Billboard) electronic producer Ben Böhmer releases his sophomore album Begin Again via Anjunadeep, along with single “Home” ft. folk duo JONAH. Böhmer recently won Best Live [Streamed] Act Award at the AIMs in what has been arguably the most competitive year for live streamed performances. This year, Ben has also been named Spotify’s #1 fastest growing electronic artist with over 60 million streams. Vogue UA called Ben “the new star of the world electronic scene” while he has garnered support from the likes of Pete Tong at BBC Radio 1 and Anna Lunoe at DanceXL Radio on Apple Music 1. Begin Again was inspired and written while Böhmer and his wife were separated on opposite sides of the globe for nine months due to the global travel ban. The album sees him perfectly portray the longing and uncertainty he and many of us experienced during this time. The latest single to be taken from their forthcoming LP Joy, Dusky's Local Newspaper is a euphoric breakbeat anthem that captures the abandon of '91 acid house raves and post-pandemic dancefloor releases alike. Drawing on the classic acid house and early rave sounds, Local Newspaper is built around an infectious bumping bassline and a classic Italian house styled piano with vocal samples, shuffling breakbeats and Dusky's trademark attention to sonic detail all resplendent in the mix. 11-11 is the second single taken from Qrion's upcoming debut album I Hope It Lasts Forever (Anjunadeep). Written during lockdown in San Francisco, 11-11 combines Qrion's characteristically dreamy atmospheres with a drum arrangement that alternates between gritty breakbeat and classic four-to-the-floor. Following their captivating singles List and Cesta, which saw radio support from Sian Eleri at BBC Radio 1 alongside DJ support from Jody Wisternoff, TSHA, Qrion, and Icarus, French producer duo il:lo release their third single Meliadi. Featuring a mesmerising sitar lead amongst a bed of melodic bells and keys, Meliadi showcases dreamlike soundscapes reminiscent of Hiatus, Mild Minds, and Tycho. Forming in 2012, il:lo have released on Future Classic, bitbird, Future Archive Recordings and Loci Records, releasing several EPs and remixing the likes of Panama, Jerro, Emancipator and CloZee. Characterised by extensive use of intricate sampling and live instrumentation, il:lo's whimsical productions are inspired from the duo's travels, taking their names from valued moments in their journeys. Meliadi is il:lo's third single to be released on Anjunadeep this year. Critically-acclaimed Dutch act Weval (AKA Harm Coolen and Merijn Scholte Albers) arrive on Ninja Tune’s Technicolour imprint with news of their forthcoming 4 track EP Changed For The Better. The duo hail from Amsterdam, where they have been cultivating a unique sound that balances high energy electronic funk and emotive synth arrangements with bold, beautifully composed melodies and songwriting. Due to the enforced downtime from touring thanks to the pandemic, the duo recently embarked on a mission to rediscover themselves and what truly drives them, in a process of liberation from self-imposed constraints. Their creative process was reinvigorated with an uninhibited approach and Changed For The Better represents Weval unfiltered, accepting themselves for who they truly are. It’s sincere and heartfelt and unashamedly positive. When Sonar Kollektiv released Feiertag‘s debut album Time To Recover this summer, one actually thought that the Dutch artist and producer would keep a low profile for some time and wallow in his success. Far from it! Joris Feiertag retreated to a remote house for a week and composed new material. If you‘re in such a creative flow as he is right now, then just after a week of concentrated work enough songs for a mini-album come together again. One of the results: The three track EP called Ceylon is well worth checking out. YUPHORIC - Get Away is a fresh beach party vibe, and brings the good times to this mix, lightening the mood nicely. LA-based singer and multi-instrumentalist Kadhja Bonet returns with her first solo release since 2018’s acclaimed ‘Childqueen’ album, sharing the hypnotic new single ‘For You’, which arrives today on her new label home: Ninja Tune. Featuring Kadhja’s dreamy vocals layered with warm synths, ‘For You’ is a personal and heartfelt ode to creating space for yourself and “showing up for yourself in any form that may take”, she says. The track showcases her undeniable talent as a vocalist and songwriter but also hints at a new alternative direction for the artist, “I wanted to create something new for myself, not to overthink or be held onto a certain genre,” she explains. Made Whole is the new album from critically acclaimed husband and wife duo Salt of the Sound, an exploration of conflicting emotions - sorrow and laughter, grief and joy, loss and hope - and how the intertwining of these makes us human, makes us whole, and helps us to find true peace. Efterklang is a Danish indie rock group from Copenhagen, formed in December 2000. Dragonfly is from their sixth and latest album Windflowers; Every year as spring arrives, a sea of tiny flowers blossom across the Danish forest floor. They’re an explosion of colour, a symbol of hope and change, disappearing as quickly as they arrived and exposing the constant cycle of nature. They are known colloquially as Windflowers. Finally the inspiration for this mix Hyperion Rising by Chris Zippel (CRSZPL). Chris has and is producing musical gold consistently. The track is inspired by the science fiction novel "Hyperion Cantos" by Dan Simmons. In this story eight pilgrims intend to travel to the Valley of the Time Tombs on the planet Hyperion. There the Shrike lives, a metallic creature alleged to grant one wish to the members of the pilgrimage. The release renews an old partnership collaborating closely with the producer Gena Wernik and has been made in three sections: Meditation - Ecstasy - Arrival.
