The Chillout Lounge Mix - One
I get a lot of nice messages saying how the podcast mixes are healing so this episode is about taking care of yourself first so you can care about others genuinely and healthily.
Robag Wruhme starts a new label called Tulpa Ovi Records, Spoddy Spy is an original sound mixing trip hop, goa bonds and a touch of Andrea Berg, expect weird, wonderful music with descriptions and humour to match! SONLIFE is a British/Turkish music producer from South East London, his name directly translates from the Turkish words OĞUL (son) and CAN (life), his debut album The First is released on Chris Coco's (known for BBC Radio 1's "Blue Room" show and his own radio show "Melodica") Disappear label, which predominantly acts as a platform to launch emerging artists. Supertonic Project (Avi Revach and Kobi Shmueli / MWA Records) is an exciting band with a live feel; their album Hypnotica has a nice variety of sounds and real feelings shine through the production. Released in April 2000, Kaleidoscope (Ahead Of Our Time) marked a new era for the DJ Food alias first conceived by Coldcut (founders of Ninja Tune, the UK independent electronic music label. Ahead of Our Time was their original label before Ninja Tune). Now under the expert control of fellow Ninjas Kevin Foakes, aka Strictly Kev, and Patrick Carpenter, aka PC, the album broke with the past by reflecting a possible future of beats and pieces. Twenty years later, amid the first national lockdown in England, Kev and PC decided to celebrate Kaleidoscope's 20th anniversary by digging through their personal archives for material from the original recording sessions. They found more than they bargained for, compiling versions, alternate mixes, and unreleased ideas into a series of mixes that have now been further refined into the Kaleidoscope Companion and presented alongside the original album on quadruple vinyl. Swedish producer Hosini returns to Anjunadeep to mark the release of his double A-side Froozen / Balloons. 'Froozen', the ambient opening track on Anjunadeep 12, leads with a warm string arrangement and lush textures. Berlin based DJ and producer Powel has his Chapek 9 EP out now. With his 2020 album 'The Beauty of a Polaroid' releasing on All Day I Dream, and a plethora of releases across labels including Stil vor Talent and Do Not Sit On The Furniture, Powel's dreamy productions have seen him supported by producers including Lee Burridge, Joris Voorn and Nick Warren. The sublime label Lovezone and their pillar Ilias Katelanos an early artist of the established label, has an Ep called Makoko which is an energetic, positive fresh and groovy mixture of melodic deep house and afro. Highway Records label owner Mike Spirit presents a compilation of exclusive tracks by new heroes of Russian house and techno scene called Various Artists - A Little More Mine 2. Scottish producer Tagavaka’s Extrapolate EP his first standalone release on Anjunadeep features emotive melodies, break-beat inspired drums and a high quality sound. Mysterious electronic duo Tigerblind (Weapons) are primed and ready to pave their own path, having spent years honing their craft, embodying the mass of influences they hold close into their own unique sound, the pair now stand in the spotlight, ready to share their recordings with the world; Got To Search For Love is Tigerblind’s unmissable rave-tinged anthem. British duo My Friend mark their Anjunadeep debut with To The Moon, leading with a catchy vocal hook and breakbeat drums. The utterly gifted VOLO has an album called With The Winds out soon, Axis Mundi is a taster from the album… “The process of making this track felt so powerful and uplifting. Hope it can be an epic soundtrack to your life's adventures and inspire you to live boldly and courageously.” Paperdeer (Benjamin Kiss and Norbert Biro) is an alternative electronic music band formed in Budapest who have a track out with beautiful vocals from Viktória Vadász called Us which is on their wonderful album Pastel Days; their second full-length album and first studio LP. The songs follow a linear stylistic and contextual structure, inspired by feelings from the experiences they had together as a band in the past, through the present, which arrives in the speculations and uncertainty of the future. The album contains many instrumental tracks as well as vocals of different independent singers from around the world, and guest musicians. All lyrics (except "Youth") were written by the Hungarian poet Márton István Szabó. Included a couple of tracks by Emancipator and Cloudchord (Loci Records) from their EP Citrus Fever Dreams which is the musical equivalent of an Aperol Spritz on a summer’s day, incorporating jazzy horns, laid back grooves and silky sweet slide guitar licks. Summer feelings run throughout in this piece that is perfect for relaxing to. There is quality throughout the tracks, Lemon Lime boasts tropically tinged clean guitars, Cloudchord’s hazy lap steel swells, and breezy flutes, all riding the chillest of laid back beats to make up a heady cocktail. The musical equivalent of sipping a yuzu limeade on a tropical shore. Jordan Rakei (Ninja Tune) shares a mesmerising acoustic version of Family the lead single from his forthcoming album What We Call Life. This version originally appeared in the world as a raw but nonetheless enchanting phone video on instagram of Jordan performing the song from the comfort of his lounge at home. Just piano and vocals – no frills. It was so popular that he recorded this studio version. ‘What We Call Life’ is Jordan Rakei’s most vulnerable and intimate album to date. Its lyrics concern the lessons that the New Zealand-born, Australia-raised, and London-based artist learned about himself during therapy, a journey that began two years ago when he started reading about the ‘positive psychology’ movement. These themes manifest on songs like lead single “Family”, which Rakei says is “the most personal” he’s ever been with his lyrics. “I wanted to hit my vulnerability barrier and be really honest. It’s about my parents’ divorce in my mid-teens but still having love for them no matter what,” he explains. Finishing the mix with podcast regular Alex Donofrio, his sun laded track Artifacts is another fine example of his Balearic blissful cinematic vibes.
