The Chillout Lounge Mix - Stripped

I searched far and wide for really beautiful new music in this episode mix. Celebrating a Tim Angrave two track EP Deep Breath / Glimmer on the sublime Stripped Recordings, superb tunes on this label and Stripped Digital, lots for you to check out.

The process of making Deep Breath was an enjoyable but in-depth one involving many layers, recording and overlapping ideas to form a single deep flowing cinematic and emotional piece rather than a song. There are contrasting electronic elements mixed in with beautiful instruments and natural sounds. Rival Consoles (Erased Tapes) Johannesburg soundtracks Winter Olympics Spot “Every rise, every fall, every victory – we’re in it together” is part of the International Olympic Committee’s “Stronger Together” campaign, which celebrates the power that believing in each other has to bring people together. The film has been soundtracked with Johannesburg by Rival Consoles, taken from the mini album Night MelodySlow Song fitted best into this mix but all tracks are worth hearing, stunning music. Moritz Graßinger (analog synths, piano, percussions) and Martin Schneider (drums, e-percussions, video installation), sometimes smilingly say about their project KIDSØ, "electronic music for people who otherwise don't listen to electronic music that often." Their album Fir (Embassy Of Music) is stunning, with a perfect blend of live, organic, electronic and analog music. Brighton-based producer & DJ Just Her returns to Anjunadeep with her latest EP Depend On Your Love which opens the EP, featuring broken beats and an echoing vocal. John Gurd (Anjunadeep) says about his new album, "Phoenix was written during the UK lockdown last year. When things at home got to a pretty low point I asked myself what is the most empowering thing I can do right now and the answer was to make a new album. I've always wanted to make an album called Phoenix. I like the idea of rebirth and coming back stronger after big challenges." Blending intricate melodies with percussive laden grooves, Emergence provides a taster for what is to come throughout the ten-track LP. Critically-acclaimed Dutch act Weval (AKA Harm Coolen and Merijn Scholte Albers) return to Ninja Tune imprint Technicolour with the announcement of forthcoming EP March On. The four track EP, in true Weval fashion, features bold, beautifully composed melodies and songwriting. Ascorbite - Filten (Alveol Remix) is a chilled / deep classic for me and also still available for free download here… Thank you House Music With Love. Tim Angrave - Glimmer next which is a laid back deep electronic chuggy and atmospheric sound. Following four studio albums and one live album, HVOB are about to release their sixth album: TOO is an angry, tender, vulnerable, determined account of a generation's search for life. The album explores extremes in concept, content and sound. I love their sound and am drawn to the calmer tracks for the podcast but there is something for everyone and always the deepest emotions. IËLO has a new track out called Morning In Zinlay which is really beautiful, a perfect fit for a Café del Mar sunset imo: “Rustles and wonders of the rising morning can be heard in "Morning In Zinlay" - a new day is magic to whom can see it.” Lemongrass is one of the early pioneers of the downtempo and lounge scene. A tastemaker, who earned widespread acclaim for his studio mastery with a distinct intuition of what modern electronic music should sound like. Get into the Flow with a new Lemongrass album release, a musical homage to beauty and positivity, that radiates cheerful serenity and inner peace. With a new album on the way memorializing their experience of leaving Bosnia as a child refugee Arms and Sleepers have created a body of work called Former Kingdoms that is both conceptual and deep whilst retaining the qualities of being accessible and authentic. New track - My L is the perfect example of this as the melancholic piano lines lazily drip down the scale, a dreamy vocal sample provides some romance whilst the thick bass line bumps over a crackly hip hop drum break. Altogether they create wonderfully smoky vibes that could easily be mistaken for a rare cut from the Mo' Wax catalogue or lost tape from peak era Massive Attack. Producer, composer John Ricketts aka SONUS uses elements of ambient, classical, techno and progressive house music to create emotional and reflective soundtracks, check out his new album Midnight State (Reset). Högni Egilsson (Erased Tapes), a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and composer, recruited by famed electronic group GusGus for songwriting, singing and touring, resulted in a strong international following… Shed Your Skin (Safari Riot Remix) is a stunning version. Dark, delicious, scandinavian dream-pop at it’s best. Anne Marie Almedal teases us once again with another single, and another taste of her forthcoming new album We Dance Alone. Breathing In Breathing Out is a strong indication of the emotional depths and direction Anne Marie’s new album is about to take us on, with a bittersweet backdrop of jagged indie guitar haze, synth swirls, massively saturated drum machines, and her Kate Bush-esque, ice-queen magical delivery. A voice that can make time stand still, and like every pop siren should make the listener quickly lose sense of it all, if only for a fleeting moment. Hot on the heels of his stunning collaboration with Bonobo - Shadows on his Ninja Tune label mate’s new album Fragments, Jordan Rakei kicks off 2022 with a four-track digital EP Bruises. A beautiful alternate take on The Flood recorded at the BBC’s iconic Maida Vale recording studios. “I love reinterpreting my own songs into different versions to suit different live settings or moods,” he says. “I wanted to strip everything back and make this one about the tension and release, rather than overplaying/production.” Finishing the mix with something very special… In May 2021, influential dance music pioneer Moby released his debut Deutsche Grammophon album Reprise. This collection of acoustic and orchestral arrangements of a personal selection of music from his 30-year career went on to enjoy global chart success and widespread critical acclaim (“Classical, fortified, triumphant” We Rave You). Exploring the terrain where electronic and acoustic sounds meet, Moby and other leading artists have now reimagined some of these tracks for Reprise - Remixes. Cellist Peter Gregson, a performer and writer who’s taken his distinctive, broad strokes to some of the greatest, including Max Richter, Prokofiev, Bach and writing scores for ballet and cinema. Take a moment to reset and immerse yourself in an utterly breathtaking reworking of ‘Extreme Ways’.
