Starting this mix with Lánthe the gifted Greek composer / multi-instrumentalist residing between Athens and London, her beautiful track Órigin is about finding your identity, your reason, your vision. Two tracks in this mix from the legendary Pop Ambient which has always stood for a certain classicism and elegance, a kind of beatless music that’s no less inviting for its slow pace and becalmed nature, for twenty-one years, KOMPAKT co-founder Wolfgang Voigt has curated a series of peerless compilations that repeatedly find refreshing answers to a simple question – What happens when the dancefloor is empty, and everyone’s home to drift away? I highly recommend you download Pop Ambient 2021 which is pure bliss as always. Eternell - Imagined Distances brings warm rays of the Soul to soothe and softly awaken Awareness of Infinity bringing about the gentle collapse of all distances as held in emptiness in fullness in Love; poetic words and music always. Stumbleine who’s been involved with the podcast for a long while with his unique sound is well worth checking out, new music on the way. Alex Donofrio, an exciting new talent brings us a sublime sound with San Lucido which reminds me of Balearic sunsets and good times, he has a really nice variety of music so delve deeper. Feiertag - Yearn feat. Oli Hannaford & Tessa Rose Jackson (Sonar Kollektiv) is a soulful track and the first single off the new album with Oli Hannaford from London and Tessa Rose Jackson from Amsterdam duetting, majestic vocals combine with lush percussive elements and smooth drums, whilst rich chords work atop of resonant strings. Belfast-born, London-based duo Bicep (Matt McBriar and Andy Ferguson) release their hotly anticipated second album, Isles on the superb Ninja Tune, two years in the making, Isles expands on the artful energy of their 2018 debut Bicep, while digging deeper into the sounds, experiences and emotions that have influenced their lives and work, from early days in Belfast to their move to London a decade ago. “We have strong mixed emotions, connected to growing up on an island” they say, “wanting to leave, wanting to return”. “Isles” is, in part, a meditation on these contradictions, the struggle between the expansive and the introspective, isolation and euphoria. Perry Farrell (Last Man Music) - The Glitz; The Glamour is a 35-year retrospective of his life, music and art that looks into his world outside the works of Jane’s Addiction and Porno For Pyros, Perry has been at the forefront of music for over 30 years and his lifelong passion for dance music has led him to team up with some of the biggest names in electronic music to present a remix album which includes a superb line-up including in this mix my favourite versions from Speakman and Groove Armada though there are some great versions by Maceo Plex, Solomun, Guy Gerber and more to check out. I will always make room for a Ben Böhmer track in my mixes, he joins up with the gifted Tinlicker on Anjunadeep for another blissful journey Run Away. Nur Jaber introduces her new digital label IF ONLY with a five track EP Awakened Whisperer which mere foundation is secured by tranquil messages of hope and peace, the label continues the legacy of Nur Jaber's musical journeys by catalysing listeners into a dreamy and classical soundscape, each release will show the artist's softer side in partnership with close friend and visual artist, Amélie Prevoteau, whose cover art designs and videos accompany each release, the label also acts as a showcase for Nur Jaber’s adventures into film music. Days of May (Stella Polaris Music) began when Andy Cato of Groove Armada walked in on a jam session of a local band in the town of Auch, South West France, the 3 piece band who’d been playing for 15 years, became 4 and began working on a selection of songs Cato had in his head which led to their debut album Casual Destruction, one of the key tracks Modern Sounds now receives 4 massive remixes from Frederik Schumann, I chose the Stranger Sounds remix where he delivers a beautifully psychedelic and atmospheric take on the single with downtempo percussion and long, drawn-out synth work. Illuvia - Nothing Is Ever Lost from Past Lives & Inner Worlds is subtle, atmospheric, dreamy, warm, inviting and meditative. Niklas Paschburg (7K!, the contemporary department of !K7) who is one of my new favourites is pushing musical boundaries with Cyan, Paschburg’s unique brand of ambient pop meets a synergy of rap and experimental production by Ex Mykah, the alter ego of LA-based violinist Bryan Senti, the track is a culture clash, a melding of distant worlds to create a distinct new identity for one of the most effervescent tracks from Paschburg’s latest album Svalbard. Fears is London-based Irish artist, musician and producer Constance Keane, combining reflective electronics, acoustic samples, and haunting vocals with organic visuals, Fears invites the listener on an ethereal journey, blurring the boundaries between music and visual art, her minimalist approach centres on emotive subjects, which are all-at-once deeply personal yet remarkably universal, Tonnta is the Irish word for waves and is the first single taken from her forthcoming album Oíche. Chronicling Fears’ relationship with her late grandmother, Tonnta explores the experience of loving and caring for someone with dementia, while celebrating the deep connection that remains throughout, as each wave hits, the disease progresses, and it can feel difficult to stay above water. Roles have switched from childhood, the carer becomes the cared for, but the love shared doesn’t waver. The second half of the song - “Bím buartha faoina dtonnta” means “I worry about the waves”. Finishing the mixed emotive sounds with a blissful sunset tune by Seven 24 & Rediit.
