The Chillout Lounge Mix - Harmony

I love the challenge of harmonising a wide variety of genres, moods and soundscapes into something fresh and new. I’m very happy to say that the show has reached number 1 in 23 countries (iTunes Music Podcast Charts), more than doubled in the last year or so from 11 countries, huge thanks to everyone tuning in!

After the widespread success of his last single Burning, upcoming producer Ones (Ministry Of Sound) delivers another spectacularly emotive single Changes, featuring vocalist Kehina. With deep melancholic synths and low-key broken beat kicks, 'changes' takes the listener on an introspective journey throughout. Sprinkled with perfectly euphoric filtered vocals, the track encapsulates a feeling of togetherness, primed for the sunrise hours. Los Angeles-based artist Rochelle Jordan announces Play With The Changes Remixed, a reimagination of her acclaimed 2021 album Play With The Changes, my favourite was the &ME Remix of Situation, but there are more worth checking out in this release. Grammy-nominated artist Mild Minds has unveiled a full 5-track EP, tying a common thread between new music from 2022 and previously released singles. Released via ODESZA’s Foreign Family Collective, the It Won’t Do EP signifies the end of one chapter for Mild Minds as he prepares a new era of music in the time ahead. Monojoke has released on Knee Deep In Sound, Sudbeat, Soundgarden, Sirin Music, and now debuts on Elebated Records with two amazing tracks, Tesso was my pick, a deep sound with ethnic elements and a sublime bass. Paul Losev joins Where The Shadow Ends with two beautiful compositions with stunning remixes from LØC and Madraas. BiGz (Big Al) nails it again with a superb remix of a Juan Mejia track called Harelys 2 The Sunset, such a cool sound, love it. George FitzGerald has been a pre-eminent figure in electronic music for over a decade, keeping one foot in the underground and one in the mainstream. Gaining a reputation for his forward-thinking, emotive sonics, his third studio album Stellar Drifting is so nice I included two tracks in this mix, one collaborating with the epic London Grammar. Mind over MIDI returns to Beatservice Records, presenting deeply immersive tracks on the breathtaking new album, Control; I also included two tracks from this album as I love the vibe. Having spent over half a decade as long distance friends and frequent remote collaborators, Asta Hiroki and Tristan de Liège decided to embark upon a joint project in late 2021 that saw them meet up in person and produce a collection of tracks centered around an exploration of leftfield electronic styles with an emphasis on live instrumentation and human performance at the core of the production methods. Time Out is a gorgeous slice of electronica with a bed of delicate soft synths and a Phillip Glass or Steve Reich-esque piano line creating a hypnotic beat before melancholic vocal snaps ride above and the bass enters. Allan Shotter’s track Ueno (Definition:Music) claims the room to itself completely and immediately. The rise and fall of melodic synth lines lead us through a labyrinth at first, leaving plenty of space for imagination. Before you notice, playful call-and-response rhythms are teasing the ears, until the track surrenders itself to an ever-growing wave of synth patterns and their behind-the-beat-delay. It climaxes into a haunting silence with tenuous high-pitched sounds and a clear outer space feel. Finally, all elements lock into a comforting groove, driving us forward, not too fast, not too slow - exactly right. 7K! are back with the latest edition in their Layers series; Duet Layers pays tribute to the first editions of Piano Layers, String Layers, Ambient Layers and Wind Layers, honoring the layers thematic template, and challenging the artists to work together to find a common ground. Laura Masotto & Ryan Teague’s track Perseids is my pick for this mix, stunning! Lemongrassmusic present the first long player album Deeper Dreams by California-based musician and producer Kevin Paczesny. After the release of two EPs in 2017 and 2020, Kevin now comes up with a ten track gem that is a combination of both chillout and ambient songs, the energy is ethereal leftfield to melodic with percussive elements, otherworldly dream vibes. Boundaries is the first complete album by Andreas Balicki (Future Tapes), driven by the power of slow, shivering downtempo rhythms and melodic techno influenced grooves, Andreas has become a one of kind voyager of sound, with his productions he’s always striving towards unheard and unprecedented sounds, developing his own universal language. Berlin based producer and live act Nils Hoffmann releases his highly anticipated album A Radiant Sign on Anjunadeep, the album features a broad range of collaborations, including electronic duo TENDER, South African vocalist Julia Church, singer-songwriter Panama, acclaimed Australian songstress Gordi, London artist bailey, Breathing vocalist Malou, UK duo Hi Frisco, and renowned neo-classical composer Niklas Paschburg who is one of my favourites and their collaboration is a perfect finale to this mix.
