The Chillout Lounge Mix - Radiance

Sending out positive, glowing radiant music in this mix to end the year with. Very happy to collaborate again with the uber gifted Chris Zippel with the EP Radiance which is the inspiration for this mix, there are four versions including a Sunset Mix which is the finale to the more chilled, deep, ambient, Balearic second half of this set.

Gelka and Forteba combine with a superb album called Particles, I chose Voices for this mix which has a sublime atmosphere and vibe, the gifted Sam Brookes collaborates on many tracks in the album too. Long time label affiliate Edamame returns to Emancipator's Loci Records imprint for a single to round off a busy year in relaxing fashion, Edamame is the stage name of Denver-based music producer Ed Harris, known for blending instrumental hip hop with downtempo and his deep love for world music, In his own words he simply creates "songs that help you float". New single Samidare stays true to that cause with a heady mix of dreamy vocals, elegant sonics and unique beats providing the perfect balance of groove to a pleasant smooth cerebral sound.

“My name is Chris. My daughter Oona [7], has a severe undiagnosed condition affecting her movement and face and it costs us thousands of pounds a year to pay for her therapies – most of  which are not available on the NHS. We expected Oona to be born with only a small disability you may have heard of - ‘club foot’, requiring a simple operation. It was, unfortunately, only the tip of the iceberg as much more serious conditions arose, which resulted in life-saving emergency operations and a small lifetime of specialist physio - and many more operations on hips, jaws and feet. We were even told she may not ‘form thoughts’ and that she was probably not going to survive. How wrong they were! She loves life! She goes to a regular school with a support worker. Oona learned to swim this year - and it's been an epiphany! We didn’t think it was even possible.  She cannot walk more than a few steps, even with splints, but swimming has been a lifesaver for her. But she needs so much more help than this, not just to swim, but also cope with day-today  living, and it’s hard being a carer and pulling in much income. A charity called Tree of Hope manages Oona’s fundraising allowing us to only purchase therapies and medical aids. Who would have thought 90’s ravers 808 State, Plaid and The Future Sound of London would come to the rescue? Well they have! And there’s nearly sixty others who also have, with incredible label Touched Music remixing Oona’s Life on Project 00! Monoform made my favourite track of the album.

Marsh is back on Anjunadeep with the last EP of this trilogy series. Calling EP features four brand new offerings from the American-based UK-native DJ & producer, the breaks-influenced Love was my pick from the EP. 2021 has seen Marsh release on Joris Voorn's label Spectrum, remix the likes of Eli & Fur and Dosem, and receive support from BBC Radio 1, SiriusXM Chill and Kiss FM to name a few. Eli & Fur close out this year with a celebratory nine-track collection of reworks of the original material released on their first studio LP, Found In The Wild. The duo have brought together a hand-selected eclectic mix of friends and peers to reinterpret Found In The Wild, each artist stepping up to the plate to lend new context to their standout track of choice. MOLØ smashed it with their version of Wild Skies. Beloved German outfit Milky Chance build further excitement around their addictive, first fully independent release on their label Muggelig Records, Colorado, by inviting UK brothers Icarus to remix the track. Icarus, in their exploration of the outer realms of electronic music, flip the bonafide stoner anthem on its head, gorgeously mending and intertwining gleaming synth keys and pushing the vocals farther into the void. The English duo reimagine a once a punk-inspired, gritty rock tune into an ethereal, soul-tingling electronic masterpiece. Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen have dedicated themselves to exploring the area in-between Ólafur’s more acoustic, piano-based solo work and Janus’s synth-heavy electro pop / techno, with their collaborative electronic project Kiasmos (Erased Tapes). Once again Chris Zippel and Tim Angrave have teamed up for their new track Radiance on Allisum Records. "Radiance is the radiant flux emitted, reflected, transmitted or received by a given surface!" As Science fiction fans there was always a fascination with vivid lights of the night sky, these artefacts, monoliths and the possibility of otherworldly places and intelligence in the unfathomable vastness of space inspired Radiance... The trance flavoured 120 bpm "Original Mix" features a huge break with arpeggiated chords and lush synth textures. The 118 bpm "Sunset Mix" is a tribute to the famous Sunset DJ and compiler at Café del Mar Jose Padilla. Both artists have worked with him in Ibiza, he was a huge inspiration to many. Conceived during a trip to Reims (France) for an artistic collaboration with KRUG, the prestigious Champagne Maison, two new songs by composer, pianist, and electronic producer Niklas Paschburg, who is confirmed as one of the greatest European talents when it comes to instrumental music, combining the sound of contemporary electronics with the sweetness of piano melodies and the beats of electronic music. The two pieces conceived during the visits to the vineyards, cellars, and places of the Champagne-Ardenne region that immediately lead to hearing nature and open space, a small journey through field recordings and barely mentioned melodies that explode in a continuous chase of colors that change in the landscape created by the two unpublished compositions of the young composer. SINE is back with a geat new organic chill track called Hold On, a really positive sound as always that urges the summer vibe, a real winter warmer. Through making his mark on the electronic music scene, Mazoulew has collaborated and performed as a DJ with some of the UK’s most influential artists. BBC Radio has featured Mazoulew multiple times as ‘One to Watch’, with ‘Kin’ ft. Handbook receiving support from Jaguar on Radio 1 Dance Show and ‘Overdue’ drawing repeated love from Tom Robinson on 6 Music Introducing. His single ‘For You’, ft. Sebastian Davidson, released on the world’s largest independent dance label, Armada, has been on heavy rotation on SiriusXM in the USA. Big In Borneo (Michael Pybus) is a new and exciting artist that makes evocative, emotional electronic music that takes the listener on a journey. “One Night In Yarra is inspired by my time during the first lockdown. I was with my then girlfriend, in Yarra; an idyllic valley near Melbourne, Australia. It was just the two of us in a tiny cabin surrounded by woodland, and rain. This song is me looking back on those times through a melancholic lens, as we are now on opposite sides of the World, not knowing when we will see each other again.” The Brutal Minimalism EP by The Black Dog follows them on a journey across several sites in Yorkshire famous for their brutal architecture. The four rhythmic beat-driven tracks were all written on location while waiting for ideal lighting and the rain to stop. The tracks evolved over a number of weeks, produced within the architecture of the car parks, streets and nearby green spaces, all to find the distinct vibrations of the place. Sound samples were captured from the environment and banks of percussion, pads and tones were created for use throughout the pieces. Working within this architecture influenced the process and ultimately shaped the evolution of the tracks. Following the release of her debut album Burnheart, acclaimed German musician Johanna Burnheart announces Burnheart Remixed: a new collection of reimagined album tracks from four singularly talented electronic producers. Acid Pauli nails the remix for me in this EP. Arno E. Mathieu (Compost Records) opens his new Contemplation project with this first Aurora Baléaris EP, as a tribute to that special moment in the morning when everything seems to awake, following the movement of the sun on the horizon, as one of the most beautiful images of the sublime of nature. For the 12 years Compost Disco (sub-label) anniversary Compost are providing a massive package of 15 exclusive, previously unreleased tracks. A brilliant cocktail of disco-ish tunes by the likes of Dimitri From Paris & DJ Rocca, AN-2, Mark E, Ed Lee, Manuel Tur, Chocolate Garage Production, Velmondo, Ron Deacon and some other suspect alter egos. Destined for the sunset crew, for the hip shaking, for the gym, for those, who are open-minded about disco anyways, for more parties, last but not least for salvation. The 15th volume of the legendary Future Sounds Of Jazz – compilation series, compiled by Michael Reinboth features Aera with his exclusive track Line Of Conception a beautifully deep electronica piece of music. Playful synth arpeggios meet slapping electro drums, melting into a glittering electrifying, but emotive tune. Finishing the mix with the Sunset Mix of Radiance by Chris Zippel and Tim Angrave.
