The Chillout Lounge Mix - Elegance
Bringing you elegant and classy music in this mix, let’s move with style.
Tropics is the project of British electronic musician Christopher Ward, a producer, composer, and live musician, he creates dreamy, often vocal-driven ambient electronica with occasional nods to RnB, house, and a host of other eclectic influences. Released on Seb Wildblood's All My Thoughts imprint, Nothing Strange marks a career defining chapter from the talented producer. Powerhouse vocalist Becky Hill returns to her roots, joining forces with the highly acclaimed drum and bass duo Chase & Status in a dynamic partnership that brings together their unique musical styles. Innovative producer Franky Wah unveils his take on Disconnect. Opening with a slower tempo, that progressives as the track unfolds to create a profound auditory listening experience whilst maintaining the poignancy of Becky's vocals. Frctls, the Berlin-based enigma, seamlessly fuses UK garage's infectious grooves with glitchy, organic elements. The music thrives on uplifting melodies and detailed rhythms, extending the sonic palette beyond genre boundaries. Hydra (Shapeless Culture) is a dynamic and nostalgic UK breakbeat / future bass track that radiates energy and fierceness. It not only pays homage to the rich heritage of UK garage but also boldly charts a course toward the future. With its earth-shaking bass lines, mind-bending glitches, and intricately syncopated drums, this composition immerses listeners in a state of euphoric bliss and an irresistible groove. German trio GHEIST stands out as one of the most exciting live acts in the international electronic music circuit. I Am Human, deeply emotive in its effect, the trio lays down a foundation of nostalgia-inducing synth work and serene soundscapes that thrill and calm in equal measures. Considered and impactful, the cut is a blissful addition, reinforcing the remarkable tone and timbre of the German collective. What's left to say about Steve Bug, the house and techno legend who’s influence has left huge fingerprints on the German underground dance scene, not least from his groundbreaking label, Poker Flat or how it shaped ‘00s minimal house; his releases on every seminal label you can think of from Bedrock to Ovum via Cocoon and Defected; his creativity and dedication to his art with 5 solo LPs and 2 collaboration LPs, the latest of which Mixmag described as “elegantly euphoric”; his incredible live sets or his continued love for the music. Trees & Clouds sees Steve dabbling with delicate Detroitian vibes. Deeply sparse and utterly hypnotising, he recreates the very essence of those early pioneering grooves, expertly bringing them up to date for the modern floors. Collating their finest releases from 2023, plus a selection of never heard before tracks, Dougal Fox delivers his 2023 Summer Showreel. Bridging every corner of his sound, the showreel dips and dives through floating atmospherics, big room slammers and ethereal builders, providing a detailed insight into Fox’s production world. Also included are a set of stellar remixes from Dave Seaman, Glenn Morrison and Bushwacka! Each moulding their original counterparts into brand new, exciting club territory. George Riley (Ninja Tune) is one of London’s most unstoppable R&B forces. Through a progressive sound that encapsulates soul, forward thinking electronics, ambience and so much more, Riley has, over the space of two critically acclaimed projects in interest rates, a tape and Running In Waves, carved an abstract yet wholly relatable niche within London’s thriving music scene, Elixir was my pick for this mix. Tim Angrave - Elegance Elated is a sunset track with blissed out vocals and an elated atmosphere over powerful but chilled beats. Released on the superb Numen Records who have a lot of exciting things happening. Following her signing to One Little Independent Records, London-based multidisciplinary artist and producer Laura Misch has announced the release of her long-awaited debut album Sample The Sky; which responds to nature's patterns through organic electronic productions, embodied lyrics, wind inspired saxophone, singing and synthesis all woven into intricately crafted left-field pop songs, an album that can be distilled as the feeling you have when you see the sky and you are in such awe that you feel compelled to photograph it and send it to someone - the moments that feel so intimate and personal yet universal, un-ownable and ephemeral.” Having re-established their vital Never On Sunday side-project with the fantastic Contemplate EP late in 2021, Detroit pioneers Octave One now expand the offering into an all-encompassing digital album with more new tracks and a full videos presentation. Octave One have remained as prolific as ever this past year with new music and live shows around the world. Now in 2023, the Burden Brothers expand the original vinyl only EP with new tracks, additional productions, and 10 video shorts, produced and directed by the brothers themselves, to make for an absorbing album. Also featured as bonus tracks are remixes by Orbital (who I’ve included in this mix and am a huge fan of), Skream, Giorgia Angiuli, P41, and Kevin Reynolds. Elliot Moriarty present the beautiful Night Time Feelings EP. Included Vandelor, Edu Schwartz, Paul Losev Remixes on Madraas’s superb label Where The Shadow Ends. The sublime Sine Music releases Maybe ft. ROO J by Thomas Lemmer & Oine. This remarkable track is the duo's second single from their upcoming album, One Vision. Notably, the single and album will also be available in the immersive Dolby Atmos format. After his first four releases which have been played by a multitude of radios, broadcasts, podcasts and YouTube channels from all over the world, Berlin-based composer Rettward von Doernberg has just released his fifth single, A Military Base. EZ is about those blessed moments when love feels easy, as rsun explains: "I generally make art for and from sadness; this is the only happy song on the record. I think I initially wrote this song from a place of bliss, but by the time I was editing it, it was painful to look back on a snapshot of sunshine and butterflies in an otherwise doomed relationship. But I think it's important to voice that feeling of ease, when love feels right and makes life beautiful. There's a reason we keep trying.” Experimental political pop artist Mary Ocher returns with Approaching Singularity: Music for The End of Time a musical tour-de-force examining the collective dread of our impending future.
