The Chillout Lounge Mix - Reminisce
Remembering all the good times with friends, family, loved ones and looking forward to positive shared experiences soon.
Starting this mix with legendary Roland Voss‘s Lemongrass project, founded in 1996 at times when the world of Lounge & Chillout was an undiscovered open field of creativity, turned out to be the perfect playground for the manifold musical interest of Roland Voss. I am always very happy to work with Roland and very much enjoyed remixing his sublime track Laterna Magica. It was a pleasure and an honour to remix Leaving by Christophe Goze, a familiar name in the circles of chilled global beats and considered by music columnists as the creator of the Arabiant style, his fusion grooves have graced hundreds of compilations around the world. Der Waldläufer latest release called Asleep is very nice indeed, featuring two tracks in this mix. Secret of Elements (InFiné Music) music is a subtle reflection of sensitive melancholic fantasies and fragile moments of hope which provoke shivers, under the influence of the organ, and never break. After the first two Earthly Tapes & a handful of EPs, Earthly Measures drops its first full-length album with Mente Orgánica’s El Espacio - a beautifully crafted album with glorious textures, steady grooves, calming vibes and a dancefloor filler or two. Norwegian duo Lost Girls (artist and writer Jenny Hval and multi-instrumentalist Håvard Volden) will digitally release their debut album, Menneskekollektivet on Smalltown Supersound. HVOB a firm favourite of this podcast release their first live album Live In London along with a tour documentary, 77 sold-out concerts, stops in 34 countries and four continents: one of the highlights of the Rocco world tour in 2019 was in London on April 13, at the filled-to-capacity Electric Brixton music venue, the evening had already been planned in advance as an album, a lot of effort went into recording it in its entirety, HVOB are currently working on a new studio album that is provisionally scheduled for release in spring 2022. Over the past three years, Absolute (Skint Records) has graduated from a key figure of London’s underground LGBTQ+ club scene to a DJ, producer, and live artist in the spotlight of international electronic music. Lawrence Hart (Dream Diary Records) delivers his stunning debut EP Surrender Yourself, I chose The Sun Sets On The Eastern Block for this mix which is a delicate track void of any beat, features a plethora of soul-touching synths and vocal snippets fused for a beautiful and uplifting piece. James Reid who I’ve been a fan of as a DJ and producer for many years, his style is deep with hypnotic melodies, strong percussive elements and dub inspired bass lines, James spent many years living in Ibiza and held residencies at leading sunset bars and has played at Space Ibiza for Carl Cox’s Revolution night for Midnight Social Records, one of the 10 labels James is currently signed to, as a producer, James is now a strong presence in the genre that he loves with releases on Zingiber Audio Whoyostro and Midnight Social Recordings as well as his own label Sonet Music a vinyl only label which sets out with the goal of putting forward captivating underground music from the deeper end of the electronic music spectrum. Natascha Polké (Definition Music) has the most beautiful voice, her Burning Out EP starts with the track Burning Out which is a spheric track where organic sounds meet disarmingly intimate vocals, a soundscape that keeps building and falling like gushing waves, nostalgic call and response movements carry us into the unknown of our inner universe with an irresistible groove, much like our own heartbeat, leading the way. Two tracks in this mix from the label Anjunadeep who consistently deliver the highest quality music, firstly from Luttrell who is influenced by everything from the sunsets of his San Francisco hometown to DJing the playa at Burning Man, Luttrell’s unique brand of melodic techno has seen him gain heavy support from BBC Radio 1, and receive remix requests from renowned acts Moby, What So Not, and Tycho. Secondly Tokyo based producer Yunosuke Senoo aka Lycoriscoris has been producing electronic music since 2009 and has released two albums and digital EPs on a Japanese indie label. His subtle fusion of organic melodies and futuristic electronic production has won him numerous support from the likes of DJ Koze and Michael Mayer, who released his ’Transient EP' on Kompakt sub-label KX in 2016. He made his debut on Anjunadeep in 2018. A Tim Angrave remix of Cosmic Tune (Planet Inspiration) by Unit Blue (Daniel Vernunft and Dom Paradise) who make a crossover of refreshing Balearic dance & chill music, based in Hamburg, Zurich and Ibiza. The second track from Der Waldläufer leads into Ryan Farish’s track Prelude which I felt was just as beautiful and poignant at the end of the mix as the beginning (postlude), this track was featured on Apple Music's Pure Focus and Spa playlists.
